A New Year of Ministry to Kids

First United Methodist Church in Temple, TX hosted my first kid's show of the year this week. The Almost Amazing Marko kicked off the first Wednesday night supper program of 2012, entertaining about 20 kids and their parents after a big BBQ meal.

Staff pastor Jane Woodward let me know that the church's current theme is "Practicing the Presence." I wove that idea into my show, using my Multiplying Sponge Ball trick to give my audience a visual on what happens when we share our blessings. Sponge balls would disappear from my hand and jump into a volunteer's hand. He started with one and ended up with four! When we practice the presence of God, we give away our gifts but they keep coming back to us, multiplied by grace!

The children were howling with laughter throughout the show as a wand collapsed, a flower drooped and a volunteer's head mysteriously enlarged and shrunk after the audience watched a spinning red-and-white wheel. All in all, it was a great kick-off for new year of ministry to children.
